Our Origin Story: Why We Started Freedom Business Solutions

At Freedom Business Solutions, our mission is simple but deeply personal: we help faith-based private practices in the mental health space thrive. When practice owners thrive, their teams thrive, and most importantly, their clients thrive. It’s why “freedom” is in our name: because financial clarity, sustainability, and growth create freedom not just for the business owner, but for the entire community they serve.
But how did two accountants find their way here?
A Friendship Built on Faith (and Accounting)
Our journey began in a place neither of us expected. Through a shared involvement in our community (coaching soccer, leading retreats, and serving in youth ministry) we discovered two things we had in common: a love for our faith and, surprisingly, accounting.
At the time, Austin was studying for his CPA exams. Jacob had already written a book on passing the exams, and naturally stepped in to mentor. What began as study sessions and conversations over coffee grew into a friendship grounded in faith, trust, and a shared sense that God had something bigger planned.
What started as casual talks over Dunkin’ coffee eventually turned into business plans. We didn’t set out with the end in mind—it was an organic process of dreaming together, questioning the status quo in public accounting, and asking what impact we were really called to make.
Why Mental Health Practices?
Leaving public accounting, we knew we wanted something deeper. As we prayed and reflected on our experiences, one theme kept surfacing: mental health.
For Austin, the impact of mental health services was personal. His older brother’s life was transformed through addiction recovery, giving Austin a front-row seat to the healing power of counselors and therapists.
For Jacob, the story is rooted in loss. After his father’s passing when he was 11, brought on by both heart failure and depression, he carried wounds for years. Working with a faith-based therapist later in life helped him find healing, truth, and freedom.
Both of us had seen firsthand the incredible work mental health professionals do, and we realized we wanted to support them in their mission. We can’t sit in the counseling chair—but we can come alongside practice owners, handling the finances and business operations so they can focus on what they do best: changing lives.
The Heart of Our Work
We also understand the challenges of entrepreneurship. Running a private practice can be isolating. Owners often feel stretched thin, unsure who to turn to for business guidance. That’s where we want to step in, not just as accountants, but as partners, accountability friends, and trusted financial coaches.
Our goal is to bring financial clarity and peace of mind so practice owners don’t burn out or lose sight of why they started. We want to be the steady hand that helps keep their mission moving forward.
Looking Ahead
We just returned from the AACC Conference, and the experience only confirmed what we already felt: the mental health field is filled with passionate, faithful people doing incredible work. We’re honored to serve them.
This is only the beginning of our journey at Freedom Business Solutions. We believe God has more in store, and we’re excited to keep walking this path, supporting practice owners, and helping them, and their clients, experience true freedom.
